I'm far off from writing a fantasy novel (I have a basic plot and some characters, but not the drive to world-build yet) but the old forests will be like this. I'll have to re-read all my Lankhmar books before I write, those are my favorite influence; the world is familiar but strange, and anything you take for granted might be challenged. I think you wander into Pando,...Those are amazing.

I think you wander into Pando, but you deliberately go into that spore spread. It's where the guy who steals your best magic item runs, either foolishly believing he'll be safe in the heart of the spore or worse, actually being right about that.

Otherwise you'd quickly just walk out. You need a reason to keep going, and reclaiming a loss is a powerful need.

Thanks for linking them.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-20542691809984310052015-12-17T10:34:49.398-05:002015-12-17T10:34:49.398-05:00I hate icky goo monsters. Can't smash!
Slipper...I hate icky goo monsters. Can't smash!
Slippery ones that make you slide down a runnel into a pit of them are terrifying.
Has anyone done a game version of the 2.4 mile wide spore beneath an Oregon forest? That could be awful to wander into. Especially if the effects start hallucinogenic and then get slowly worse as you get in further, charming or enslaving, phobias, etc.
http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20141114-the-biggest-organism-in-the-world
There's also a huge stand of trees that are considered a single organism, a hive mind of thousands of rooted, but mobile ents would be pretty awful as well. "The Trembling Giant," a colony of cloned aspen trees:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pando_(tree)
Thomas Pluckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17008022962076648740noreply@blogger.com
