I might call that an unarmed Parry, with damage to the arm if that matters, but which blinds you until your next turn. Or allow a Block to get the shield up and thus eliminate the eyes as a possible hit location and apply the DR differently. I'll have to see if that works in play, though.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-7469663766856790222020-09-18T20:32:12.397-04:002020-09-18T20:32:12.397-04:00On this topic... This is a Ready Maneuver to do it without a roll, or as a reaction to an attack as a Dodge. Unless their hand DR is radically different from the Torso, I just give them full Torso and call it a rounding error.

Basically this is clapping hands over their eyeslits, Shirtless Savages covering their eyes and ears, etc. Of course, doing so forfeits them being able to see for the remainder of that Maneuver.

I'm also stealing your and MLangsdorf's fire inhalation damage.evileeyorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08296632217198088455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-76381782497476331472020-09-17T22:31:07.981-04:002020-09-17T22:31:07.981-04:00Even if you close your eyes, Tough Skin doesn'...Even if you close your eyes, Tough Skin doesn't mean tough eyelids. Eye protection is generally separately purchased through Nictitating Membrane although if you have a Force Field enhancement on your DR, you can have eye protection from that.

Basically, blinking shouldn't be a DR-multiplier for barbarians.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-13157810719209136802020-09-17T16:49:28.210-04:002020-09-17T16:49:28.210-04:00Regarding Large Area Injury: I think the rule abov...Regarding Large Area Injury: I think the rule above is fair and what the rules intend. It always stinks *for a player* when you're DR 10 or so, and with large area injury, now it's a 5. But unless you can close your eyes...and have Tough Skin, I think it should be divided by the eye DR. Tough, but fair. I understand the concept that dividing by 2 is rough when the eyes are only a small part of the body, so you've got maybe 95% protection on the front and only 5% unprotected--yeah, hat is harsh. But eyes are also far more sensitive than other parts, so...seems OK to me. Looking at it from both the player and GM side, I think that's right. I guess if people can anticipate it, they can close their eyes or turn away--but that has its own penalties when someone else comes up and whacks them when they're not looking. Close your eyes at your own peril!

Regarding the fire rule: I really like that. It is a little weird that people can basically stand in fire and ignore it. I mean, at a minimum, the metal would start to heat up (although it would probably take at close to a minute or so to get it really hot where it is causing problems, kind of like cast-iron cookware, which I haven't timed, but I think doesn't get super hot before a good minute has passed). I thus think taking some burning damage from standing in a fire for a decent amount of time that is not affected by DR--whether it is to the lungs or otherwise--makes a lot of sense. I guess the guys who wrote Low-Tech figured that all out!

I'm Ulf Sigurdson, and I approved these messages. Vichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03268174879688628707noreply@blogger.com
