When he was there - and he often failed to show up - he was the contrary of happy, and it showed. It was no pleasure to do the thing we did with him around.
I, on my part, had come there because a friend had invited me. But I already knew I liked the thing, and my friend knew my tastes, and I trusted my friend's judgement. So, while I went there because of that friend, I did enjoy what we did for what it was, and I hope the others also enjoyed doing it together with me.

Note I said it might be a general rule... and indeed the experience I'm talking about was not role-playing, it was choir singing! The principle is the same.M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08590068150577933066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-85472958582597912532014-03-12T16:54:41.644-04:002014-03-12T16:54:41.644-04:00:D:DLuca Lorenzonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16753738496048471583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-68636563786794893512014-03-12T16:51:25.359-04:002014-03-12T16:51:25.359-04:00I love that it's "orto del" and I...I love that it's "orto del" and I'm "Dell'Orto."Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-59744243886783171822014-03-12T16:50:16.616-04:002014-03-12T16:50:16.616-04:00Threatening them isn't really a concern, but &...Threatening them isn't really a concern, but "here's a more complex character type who must be carefully played to have real value" is not an ideal way to start someone off. That's why I have a knight ready to go, not a Swashbuckler (depends on tactical positioning), Thief (depends on loving the niche), Bard (depends on special powers that take some time to learn), and so on. That's for the later sessions, if the new player likes the game - and a Knight lets you take an active role without being squishy.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-61346088475968986602014-03-12T16:46:06.517-04:002014-03-12T16:46:06.517-04:00Don't know if it is Women's Day (not even ...Don't know if it is Women's Day (not even sure if you celebrate it in the States) but recently the same subject has surfaced in another blog I follow:

http://ortodelgrognard.blogspot.it/2014/03/d-e-l8-marzo-come-coniugare-latavico.html

Leave behind stereotypes, female gamers come in great variety!Luca Lorenzonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16753738496048471583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-69444504333696748422014-03-12T16:12:48.365-04:002014-03-12T16:12:48.365-04:00Rapier through my heart! Fights are either inconvenience level slaughters or epic slogs.

As the party fills up, its time for thieves and bards and artificers. It's hard, since beginning players might not wanna fiddle with gadgets or spells, but a spare thief waiting for a player might not be a bad idea.Dammannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02740276687628872739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-569261526715805622014-03-12T12:46:13.330-04:002014-03-12T12:46:13.330-04:00D'oh, fair point.
