Especially when it gets the whole party thrown in jail because the players were too stubborn to abandon my character... ;)qpophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04398235894159011414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-87712059096881387292014-01-08T17:30:05.027-05:002014-01-08T17:30:05.027-05:00The platonic ideal of gaming, really, is that you ...The platonic ideal of gaming, really, is that you play this way, even if you know the rules. Play as if you were that guy you made up in the situation the GM tells you about, not a playing piece in a game.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-36897627075507470672014-01-08T17:12:42.070-05:002014-01-08T17:12:42.070-05:00I realize this was a year ago, but as a new player...I realize this was a year ago, but as a new player to GURPS I love just being able to say "I want to do this" and having all the rules experts tell me how it works out (or if it's impossible). If you don't know how you're limited, it can actually be pretty liberating. And if you fail, so what!qpophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04398235894159011414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-72285662086297064602013-01-18T01:44:43.697-05:002013-01-18T01:44:43.697-05:00Fair enough; I was probably being overly literal. ...Fair enough; I was probably being overly literal. Generally I want people to learn the game, so they don't have to ask next time, and so that they will hopefully GM sometime so I can take a break. They'd get further with just visualizing the situation and telling me what they want to do than asking rules questions.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-52981148585655646402013-01-17T21:20:37.204-05:002013-01-17T21:20:37.204-05:00True but GURPS is one of the harder rules sets, an...True but GURPS is one of the harder rules sets, and rather intimidating. Just let it slide and go with it, that's what I want the players to do anyway.Peter Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14246000382321978462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-30932915960276227042013-01-17T11:58:45.941-05:002013-01-17T11:58:45.941-05:00I think your 'One Rules Question Per Session&#...I think your 'One Rules Question Per Session' would unfairly penalize new players, or those less confident in the system.Canageekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03770924810559440307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-31873858117851850782012-02-09T16:25:24.222-05:002012-02-09T16:25:24.222-05:00I know I'm late to this party, but I just disc...I know I'm late to this party, but I just discovered your blog and am reading from the beginning.

One of our regular GMs uses a Rules Rule that says that his word is final - in the moment. Afterwards, when we're on break or whatever, if you find the rule and show him that it should have been different, he'll either grant some sort of benefit later in the game to settle it up all fair and square, or at the very least begin the next part of the game with an explanation of the rule, how it will apply "from now on" and move on. There is no rules lawyering in his game during the game proper.

Just thought I'd throw that out for you as a possible solution to your anger management issues about rules lawyers. :)j. packerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10715371366673740500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817710432110712270.post-10149104290951722122011-08-22T15:32:10.741-04:002011-08-22T15:32:10.741-04:00I like the egg-timer idea.
