Delvers to Grow: Omnibus - Arrived!

This came yesterday, so I've got that going for me.

Short version, it's very attractive. I wish it had a lay-flat binding, because I hate weighting both pages of a book when I want to reference it hands-free, but it's fine otherwise. It's solidly put together. I'm glad I went for the omnibus edition so I could have one volume - labeled on the spine - for my desktop GURPS reference books.

  1. When I start getting 750 physical orders at a time, my books will be done with lay-flat sewn bindings. I did sewn, lay-flat softcovers for Rosgarth, Nordvorn, Forest's End, and HoJ 2nd Edition (and lost money on two of those projects, though the books were awesome from a feel and quality perspective).

That's a very expensive option, frequently combined with a sewn binding. The Omnibus wound up with 75 copies sold...that's not something you throw piles of cash at. Also, companies that WILL do small-run sewn bindings, like Mixam, restrict them to standard sizes (like US letter) rather than the 8x10 format that the Dungeon Fantasy RPG uses. The current price for a 100-copy run of a sewn binding, 96-page US letter book was $76 per copy. So...yeah, not until I can routinely look at ordering 1,000 books at a time and selling 750 of them or so.

  2. Also, your contributor copies should be arriving Real Soon Now, so you'll have all the lay-flat you can eat.
