DCC Dice experience?

I pledged to the DCC 100 Kickstarter.

I may choose to plunk in another $30 for the starter kit.

Part of the attraction of paying up another $30 is getting another DCC rulebook, an adventure, and some DCC dice.

Does anyone have any experience with those oddball DCC dice?

I've never owned anything other than the platonic solids - D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20 - and a D30. Do D7, etc. really work out? Are they worth investing in, just in case I play in person? Is the quality okay?

I just want some input before I put money down.

  1. I got a set shortly after purchasing DCC but the campaign I was going to play ended up fizzling out so I have not used them as much as I hoped.

Quality wise, I don't feel like they are not any different than the typical quality of standard dice sets from Chessex or Crystal Caste. And the dice do work out given that you can get 1-7 with a single die roll and they seem balanced properly to give enough randomness.

But they are not a magical solution for me. I think I am just too used to getting similar results from a standard dice set and the extra organization to avoid confusing a d12 with a d14 or a d14 with a d16 (and so on) just isn't worth it to me.

Kinda hoping you get a dissenting opinion from mine just to hear how someone else has used the DCC dice.

  3. I have a set of the DCC dice. They are great for the DCC game system, including MCC (Mutant Crawl Classics). They were made so there was no bonus/minus calculations done during the game. Unfortunately, these dice can't really be used for any other system. They are great conversation starters. Hope this helps.

  4. I love mine. I also run both DCC and MCC. I find the quality is comparable to any other dice I own and I love the oddball nature of dice that are strange for a community already founded on strange dice. The dice chain mechanic in DCC is one I particularly enjoy and have considered porting over for when I run other games.
