Final Thief changes

Here are the final changes to the Thief template from DF1 for DF Felltower.

- Perfect Balance is optional; if not taken, spend those 15 points on any other advantage(s).

- Eliminate Shadowing, saves 2 points.

- Eliminate Smuggling, saves 2 points.

- Reduce Urban Survival to 1 point, saves 1 point.

- Eliminate Filch, roll points into Pickpocketing.

Use the 5 saved points to increase any skills.

We should probably make Pickpocketing a technique of Sleight of Hand but have not done that so far.

And that's that!

  1. Okay, serious question: Aside from cheating at gambling, what is Sleight of Hand doing that isn't covered by Filch/Pickpocket, Holdout, and Performance? (And cheating can be slide over to Filch/Pickpocket easily enough.)

I've dumped SoH from all my games as it's one of those redundant skills like Shadowing. (And then you can keep Smuggling as it's actually useful, but then I can see dropping it for a pure dungeon bash game like yours.)

    1. Palming loot without anyone seeing it being done, mostly.

  2. Except that should be Filch as per "This skill lets you steal objects sitting in plain sight without being spotted."

If you can't palm it, then...? Or if "palming" is the line you're drawing, that should also be covered by Holdout, "This is the skill of concealing items on yourself", I would argue that concealing a small item in one's palm would be covered by Holdout, not necessarily the theft, but the holding.

But even then, I wouldn't require Holdout to palm something, but to kept it hidden for a long term under observation (and especially if you secrete it somewhere else upon your person during a search) I'd require Holdout.

My point here is, Sleight of Hand is really just Filch, Pickpocket, Holdout, and Performance rolled into one, and either makes the other four skills superfluous, or they do so for it.

My method was to drop the one skill, but I could also see going the other way and dropping the other four (three for Thief) and raising SoH to VH, considering that Filch, Holdout, and Pickpocket all default to it.

Like I said. Probably should, haven't yet. SoH makes the most sense for me out of the skills we kept for the task. I don't consider Filch because I don't think that needed to be a skill in the first place, so I certainly wasn't looking to keep it. Out of the skills on "Low Key"s character sheet, SoH made the most sense. So that was it. Holdout would have been if someone searched him for it.
