White box D&D - complete

With a nice find on eBay, I have just completed my white box D&D set:

That's the new addition in the bottom-right hand corner - Supplement IV: Gods, Demi-gods, and Heroes by Ward and Kuntz.

I originally picked up Blackmoor and Eldritch Wizardry for a few bucks apiece at a tiny basement gaming shop at - IIRC - the Bergen Mall. I bought it because they were for D&D, and this was when I didn't have any idea about different editions. I picked up Car Wars (and Truck Stop and Sunday Drivers) and Ogre from that shop, too, along with most of my Grenadier miniatures boxed sets. Anyway.

I got the LBBs a while later on a whim from The Mail Order Hobby House. IIRC it's the collector's edition.

Greyhawk I got in the 90s from somewhere else - I can't remember where.

Finally, my Supplement IV arrived in the mail today.

Now all I need is Outdoor Survival and Chainmail to make it a playable game. Heh.

  1. Awesome, man! Congrats.

I've got my complete selection as well, other than Chainmail. I even have Outdoor Survival but I still haven't played it yet.

These little books are really a piece of gaming history.

  2. Congrats on your collection so far and good luck finding Chainmail. I picked up a copy of Outdoor Survival last year at a convention.

  3. >> Now all I need is Outdoor Survival and Chainmail to make it a playable game. Heh.

That, in my opinion, is a big part of what makes the Melee and Wizard microgames so significant.

  4. Also, for completeness, Swords & Spells, the three Monster and Treasure Assortment books (or the one that collects all three in one book), and perhaps the three Dungeon (also available collected in one product) and one Outdoor Geomorphs collections.

  5. I love when collectors complete their sets. Great work, man.

  6. Also, you need the box. But this is awesome.

  7. Thanks guys. I actually do have the box, it's just not in the picture.

And I'm not really on the lookout for Chainmail or Outdoor Survival. I've read Chainmail, but I'm not actually going to play it so . . . I don't really need it. Ditto on Swords & Spells. I've got the Geomorphs collections twice over (admitted cut up, but I have it), the M&T assortment, and Adventure Log, too. As far as I'm concerned the LBB white box + Supps I - IV is complete enough for me. :)

  8. Heh. I was just riffing on that Chainmail/OS comment. Seriously, though, great collection. I am envious.

    1. Well, I wouldn't turn down a well-priced copy of any of them.

And I'd like to have a set of the geomorphs - all of the sets - uncut. Just not enough to pay much for them.
