Three Pathfinder Bestiaries

So I received a copy of Pathfinder Bestiary today in the mail - an eBay auction win, at a reasonable price.

I finally have all three of the beautiful and highly inspirational Pathfinder Bestiaries. Here they are:

Pathfinder Bestiaries

Most of the monsters are old hat, but some of the new ones are fun and some old ones have a nice spin on them I find makes them even better monsters. So I'm pretty happy. This goes right into the "to read" list. Pathfinder might be a bit too rules-heavy for me (yet also too abstract, oddly) but it's clearly for gamers, by gamers - and their stuff is just beautiful and well done. Oh, and Doug Cole has a series on it, too, if you want to see what a GURPS player who is also a Pathfinder player thinks of it.

  1. Now I have to get back on the horse and continue. I lost a lot of wind when I hit the 100-page list of magic spells. I think I have a way of chopping that down to something manageable, but yeesh, that was daunting.

Plus, real life happened. I started the read-through on Jan 15, 2013. So it's taking me a long time to wade through it all. Not the least reason because it's not my primary system.

    1. I do now! I'll have to look at it first and decide if I need it. :)

  3. I love these bestiaries. I need to get the third, but chose to get the Ultimate Campaign first.

  4. I don't consider the monsters "old hat." In the beginning of the Game, many of the monsters came from out own real world mythology. I liked that.

I don't particularly care for the "newer" monsters. I'm sorry, but the "imagination" just isn't there for the creation of "new" beast, at least, not for those who actually "create" them.

Their monsters hold no interest for me. I'll take the "old" and thank you.

    1. I guess we'll just have to disagree - there are only so many times I can read the exact same take on, say, a medusa, or a giant, or whatever, and get nothing out of it. I'm buying books for a system I don't even play for inspiration and it needs to have something new in it.
