Nordland Monsters Kickstarter coming

Doug posted up this link to his pre-campaign Kickstarter announcement.

What's in it? I'm not sure. Hopefully we'll find out more.

Monsters? I'm in!

Enemies? Eh, does this mean we get Bandit, Highwayman, Guard, Assassin, etc.? Eh. I hope not! I need more generic statted-out dudes for PCs to shoot in the eyes not at all.

But monsters, yeah, let's you and me and my gaming budget talk.

I'm sure Doug will provide more details, and I'm interested to see what's he's made.

If I'm recalling correctly it was one of the things a lot of people were kinda making noise for with the Build a Bjorn project, but that KS didn't hit that level of reward, so it's likely Doug still has those stats worked up and ready to go.

If it's only a small portion of the book, I won't be upset. Especially if they are interesting banditos.

    1. Looks like the type of "Enemies" we'd call "Bandit, Highwayman, Guard, Assassin" fall in the Tier 4 and 5 level rewards under Humanoids, so we're getting almost 200 pages of monsters (and some Undersea humanoids) before we see Robbing Cap and his Jolly Boys stated up.

    2. Bear in mind that the preview you're getting was mostly aimed at Kickstarter. The tiers are correct, but I have a lot of tweaking to do. I recently looked hard at "new art, stock art, art I already have or can photoshop for real animals" and that brings the art budget for a fully illustrated book (but not 100% new art) down considerably, which lets me include more pages in the base level, etc. A higher base book means I might be able to include the physical book as a core pledge, and just let it get bigger if we hit goals. That keeps it simple.

But yeah: a whole lot of 'not NPCs' in the book before we get to human opponents that Peter has no use for because he wrote DF15 but not everyone owns DF15 or Delvers to Grow, even though they should, and "look on p. 129 for Veteran Warrior" has its own appeal.

    3. It's got nothing to do with me writing DF15 or owning DTG. Generic people foes just don't provide any value to a higher-point DF game. Unique and interesting monsters do.

    4. Fair, though my product line supports play starting at 62 points, so I have to get some of that as well. I will say that there are some very powerful critters that are bit by bit being statted up, and my author/patreon pool will be in line to throw them at parties and see how they do.

    5. I have no skin in the game but I see where "monsters, cool; schlubs, not" is Peter's view (it's also mine, but I'm not a GURPS player so if it isn't an original idea it doesn't hold any value for me.

Now what I imagined "enemies" being that would hold value to me, and possibly Peter, is mostly fleshed out mid-level anti-heroes, competing adventurers, etc. Characters who are much more than "sword guy #13" on the table. I think that would also hold some value to Peter...at least more than more ordinary people with occupational skills and equipment identified.

A paragraph of personality with motivations and/or habits/quirks to make them interesting. A paragraph on tactics that employ their equipment and advantages. And something on why they are known (which is hard to make campaign neutral but it can be done).

There, I just pitched an idea for a new book. Anyone who wants to may use it for their next writing project free of charge (but a comped copy would be sweet).
