There is a new DF book out - the long-awaited second volume in the Monsters books series that launched with a Kromm/Yours Truly co-written book quite a while back.
The new one is a lot more focused. Instead of a catalog, you get 7 kinds of slimes, spores, mold, and fungus and a staggering amount of potential variations.
You can read more about it here:
GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 2: Icky Goo
I'll try to get a review up ASAP.
I bought this book and I really like it. I like the idea that it is focused on one type of monster and gives lots of ideas on how to use them in your dungeon. I hope for more DF Monsters books that are focused on one type of monster. I would especially like one on demons and another on undead.
ReplyDeleteKromm is probably a good choice for a book of undead monsters for DF. Or in general.
DeleteHint - use any of those monsters from the 3e book straight-up in GURPS 4e. Make HP the larger of ST + any extra HP or the HP that is listed. Sit back and watch the pain roll in.
I'm not sure there needs to be an undead-focused DF supplement. Out of the box, there's already plenty of undead in GURPS. Demons, again, there are more than a few (though not as many as undead), and also, they're not defined by a central set of advantages/disadvantages as undead or slimes are. I'd go with plant creatures for another focused supplement, since there aren't many examples and their traits can be tricky to model in GURPS. Faerie is another fertile area, since there aren't many examples.
DeleteDarn, I was hoping for something like the Van Richten's guide to undead where they took a type of undead and then added a lot of interesting powerups and ideas for how to use them.

Well, it's a 21-page PDF, but within that constraint it does a pretty good job of giving variations on each general category, and suggesting ways in which they can be used effectively.
