It's at $10K as I post this, and DF21 isn't unlocked yet. Or on the list to be unlocked. So maybe they're saving it for later.

Anyway, now is your chance to go pledge $3 for as many as 12 GURPS PDFs.
But what if you go for the $30 or $99 level to get a bunch of GURPS PDFs?

Looks like DF 21 will be the last unlock. So one of the PDFs I really want* will be last. *sigh* I suppose I'll check back in 11 days and see if it's unlocked by then.
ReplyDeleteI backed it. It's just annoying the way they set this one up. But, it's only 3$, so even if all three I really want don't fund, there are others I'd have spent 3$ on anyway. And the Adventures are always welcome.

I agree, I'm only excited to check in on the PDFs because clearly mine is one of the last couple. But I'd rather just know it's going to publish as part of this.

DeleteGiven that the book I actually want isn't unlocked yet (yours, btw), I think I'm going to hold off pledging until the end of the campaign. I'd rather not send a false signal to SJG that any of the other books are things I would pay money for. And since I can see if my contribution will make a difference (they show the dollar amount to the next book unlocked), I can just hang back at this point, it'd seem.

DeleteI'd go ahead and just tell them you're waiting on my book. I can't assure you of a helpful, useful, or friendly comment back but at least they'll know your money is coming when the book you want is up for unlocking.
That's a good suggestion. Usually just not buying somehing helps send the signal, but its kind of tricky this time.

DeleteI'd not be too sure of that. There are lots of reasons - especially with the COVID pandemic - that folks don't plunk down money.
* Not interested in the subject matter
* Not interested in the subject matter at a particular price
* Didn't hear of it
* Want but can't afford
* Interested in subject matter but don't like presentation, particular author, page count (too long or too short), or something like that. Heck, "hate the art."
* Don't like form factor (print vs digital)
I can tell you that this publisher (me) gets very, very little feedback in general. ACTIONABLE feedback still less. Heck, even a no-words 5-star review doesn't give me hints as to how to replicate (this recently happened with me on Fantastic Dungeon Grappling. I mean, yay, glad it was good for you! But WHY?
Doug, that's so true. Authors (and publishers, clearly) really prize actionable feedback. And we rarely get it. So, "I'm waiting to commit to this Kickstarter until the book I want, DF21, is up for unlocking" might not change their approach but it does at least give them information they can use to change it.

DeleteI can understand why that's annoying Peter. However (and I say this as a fan rather than a business person) were I in SJG's position I would have put your book last as well.
ReplyDeleteI think that were these to have been published separately the standard way, that DF21 would probably have been assured of selling many more digital copies than many, if not all, of the other PDFs. By putting it last, it does as Matt says encourage the others. And if by some travesty it doesn't get unlocked, then you and SJG can still expect a reasonably good rate of sale compared to some of those other titles :-)
I'd suspect, that sold separately, DF 21 would sell as many copies as the rest combined, based on subject matter alone.
DeleteI guess that's the calculation - it'll do well even on its own if it doesn't fund, and it encourages further funding. It's just a bummer to have to wait. I'd rather get it into the hands of 1000+ people for sure than hope that many people buy it on its own later.
